*After news that Deion Sanders moved on to Colorado, a vacuum has been left in Jackson State. But possible names have been fronted as potential replacements. Here are the best names that should be considered to lead the next JSU era:
Herman Edwards — ESPN analyst
His tenure at Arizona State University might not have ended on a rosy note, but Edwards had managed a total of a 26-20 overall record with the Sun Devils. This included trips to three bowl games: the Las Vegas Bowl in 2018 and 2021 and Sun Bowl in 2019. The enormous task may be how to get him away from ESPN. If that is achieved, he could greatly help stabilize the program.
Eric Bieniemy – Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator
For the five years, he has been the architect of the Chiefs’ offense, it has never ranked below position seven in the NFL. His system played a significant role in transforming Patrick Mahomes into an MVP quarterback. He also played a significant role in influencing the likes of Travis Kelce into becoming one of the best tight ends in the league. He also helped shape Tyreke Hill into one of the most dangerous and prolific wide receivers in the NFL.
Ed Reed – University of Miami football chief of staff
Ed Reed last coached in 2016 when he was an assistant defensive backs coach with the Buffalo Bills. He may lack ample experience, but the University of Miami legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame player will bring with him name recognition. Furthermore, his South Florida ties could be a foothold to that recruiting hotbed.

Vincent Dancy — Mississippi Valley State University head coach
Dancy is a Jackson State alum. He spent four years there as a football letterman and a defensive coach from 2009 to 2013 as the safeties coach.
Dancy may have only a 10-38 record at Valley, but it should not be lost that he has always fielded teams who compete at a level that belies that win and loss count.
His coaching skills will be of value at a school in Jackson State that looks ready to bear the costs of elevating its football program.
What do you think of these four worthies? The jury is still out. Let’s wait.
