A 7th grade student at Buffalo Creek Academy in Buffalo, NY has recently went viral after he made the decsion to buy a pair of new shoes for his classmate best friend. Romello Early decdied to give his bestfriend Melvin some brand news shoes, after he was being bullied because of his old shoes. Once Romello noticed that Melvin was being bullied because the shoes he was wearing were getting torn, he wanted to do something about it. According to his mom one day the middle school student was called crying from school because of the disappointment in how his friend was being treated.
“I could tell it was upsetting him. It just put a real bad ache in my stomach to see somebody have to go through that, and to be to be picked on just based off appearance,” Romello told WGRZ.
Romello asked his mom to take him to the shoe store to buy a new pair of shoes for his friend using his allowance money he had saved up to pay for the shoes. The next day, Romello was so excited to surprise Melvin with the shoes.
“I’m really appreciative of what he did for me,” said Melvin. “I’m doing chores at home so I can earn some money to try and pay him back for what he did for me.”
However, Romello said he doesn’t need anything in return since it was a gift from him.
Bryant Brown Jr., the Dean of Culture at Buffalo Creek Academy, learned about what happened and was touched by the act of kindness. Brown took a picture of the two and posted it on Facebook upon getting permission from the two boys’ parents.
“My student Melo told me he was tired of other students picking on Melvin about his shoes. Melo used his allowance and bought Melvin some shoes. This is what I live for, be that helping hand,” Brown wrote in a Facebook post.
