New 2024 Lexus TX 500H

The all-new 2024 Lexus TX 500H, which replaces the previous RX-L three-row SUV, was launched this year with more room, improved performance, advanced technology, and creature comforts. Over a weeklong drive, I had the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of this latest addition to the Lexus lineup.

Unveiled in January 2024, the Lexus TX, which shares a platform with Toyota’s full-size Grand Highlander, enters the competitive luxury SUV with several new features, including advanced hybrid powertrains, upgraded technology packages, and refined exterior and interior designs. The most significant updates are its enhanced fuel efficiency, driving dynamics, and comfort for six passengers.

Models/Price: The 2024 Lexus TX Hybrid is available in three trim levels: the TX 500h Sport Performance Premium ($69,350), TX 500h F Sport Performance Luxury ($72,650), and TX 550h Luxury ($78,050). All models have essential luxury features, while the Luxury trim adds premium amenities and advanced technology. The Sport, which I tested, focuses on sport tuning and design elements that enhance performance.

Power/Performance: The entry-level TX Hybrid is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and high-torque electric motors that produce 366 horsepower. The hybrid system improves fuel efficiency by switching between electric and gasoline power. The TX also has a plug-in hybrid with 404 horsepower and over 30 miles of electric-only range. In addition, the hybrid system features regenerative braking, which captures energy during deceleration and stores it in the battery for later use, further improving efficiency. An intelligent DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system also enhances performance.

The exterior has an aggressive athletic design with the Lexus spindle grille, sporty bumpers, large alloy wheels, and modern LED headlights. But it doesn’t just look sporty; the sculpted body has an aerodynamic style that enhances its performance.

Inside the spacious cabin of the TX 500H models, you’re surrounded by high-tech features, leather upholstery, and natural wood or aluminum trim.  The Sport models have seats and other features that boost sportiness. Plenty of leg and -headroom for all passengers, including the third roll, makes it ideal for large families.

Fuel Efficiency: The TX 500 Hybrid is rated at 27 city/28 highway mpg, while the F Sport model averages 26 mpg. The gas mileage is a vast improvement for a large SUV of this size.

Safety: All TX models are equipped with the latest safety technologies, including Lexus’ Safety System+ 2.5, which offers advanced drive assistance such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian detection, and more. Additional safety features include a reinforced body structure, passenger airbags, and advanced stability control.
