Abbott Elementary has done it again.

Racking up accolades this award season, the show won Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards. The entire cast— consisting of Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, William Stanford Davis and Chris Perfetti— took to the stage to express their gratitude for this award.

Quinta spoke on behalf of the ensemble and how significant it felt to have received the award from their peers. She also highlighted how working alongside the cast pushes her to be a better actor each day and is the most challenging part of the work she does on the show.

Each award season, the question of representation is at the forefront of many conversations. Niecy Nash-Betts, Viola Davis and Angela Bassett were also up for awards for their roles in Dahmer, The Woman King and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever respectively but did not win. Frequently over the years, diverse storytelling has not always been properly rewarded at “mainstream” award shows. While still a valid concern, this award ceremony proved that much more work is needed on that front.
