*Apple TV+ has released the trailer for the upcoming three-part documentary series, “John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial,” narrated by Kiefer Sutherland.
The docuseries “features exclusive eyewitness interviews and previously unseen crime scene photos, shedding new light on the life and murder of music and cultural icon John Lennon, and the investigation and conviction of Mark David Chapman, his confessed killer,” per the official synopsis.
The series “includes exclusive interviews with Richard Peterson, a taxi driver who was witness to the shooting; Jay Hastings, a doorman at The Dakota who heard Lennon’s last words; David Suggs, Mark David Chapman’s defense lawyer; Elliot Mintz, a confidant to Lennon and Yoko Ono; and Dr Naomi Goldstein, the psychiatrist who first assessed Chapman,” the description states.
Lennon was fatally shot in NYC in 1980. Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Last year, he was transferred to the Green Haven Correctional Facility in New York, Metro reports.
Chapman allegedly said he plotted to kill Lennon three months before the incident.
During his 2020 parole hearing, when asked why he did it, Chapman said it was for “self-glory.”
“I have no excuse. This was for self-glory. I think it’s the worst crime that there could be to do something to someone that’s innocent,” he said.
“He was extremely famous. I didn’t kill him because of his character or the kind of man he was. He was a family man. He was an icon. He was someone that spoke of things that now we can speak of and it’s great,” Chapman added.
“I assassinated him, to use your word earlier, because he was very, very, very famous and that’s the only reason and I was very, very, very, very much seeking self-glory, very selfish,” he said.
“John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial” is set to premiere globally on December 6. Watch the trailer below.
