On Friday, August 11, some of the biggest names in hip hop took the stage at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York, for Hip Hop 50 Live, a star-studded concert in honor of Hip Hop’s 50th birthday, co-produced by Mass Appeal, Live Nation and the New York Yankees.
The night’s lineup included hip hop pioneers like Run-D.M.C., Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Fat Joe, Lil Kim, Remy Ma and more, with special guest appearances from Lauryn Hill, Method Man, human beatbox Doug E. Fresh and others.
The Hip Hop 50 Live concert was a glorious reminder of the progression of a genre that started in New York City but also gave love to rappers from the South and the West Coast. EBONY joined Adidas, which hosted a special suite at the concert, to celebrate the forefathers of hip hop and what’s to come.
Hip hop has stretched across time and through households, ears and hearts. The concert brought out music lovers old and young to rejoice in a musical movement that has had a significant political and social impact on the world.
Hip Hop 50 Live is part of a year-long celebration to universally spread the history and importance of the genre. Every facet of the Hip Hop 50 Universe includes a charitable component for the Universal Hip Hop Museum. The entire eight-hour event can be seen on the Mass Appeal YouTube page.
Thanks to Mass Appeal, Adidas, Love & Hip Hop Miami and other partners for helping us all to celebrate hip hop in the right way. Peep great stage pics from the show!
