Bishop T.D. Jakes, one of the most powerful voices in the Black church today, gave us all a scare during Sunday service at Potter’s House of Dallas when he experienced a health emergency right in the middle of delivering the Word.
Just moments before, Bishop Jakes – who’s been feeding our souls for decades – was testifying about his passion for preaching. You could feel the Spirit moving as he declared, “I still love to preach. I ain’t tired of preaching,” and touched our hearts with, “I miss you.”
The Bishop, now 67, was breaking it down like only he can, sharing that deep wisdom we’ve come to expect from him. “Have you ever gone to a hospital to visit somebody and you thought it was going to encourage them, and they encourage you? That’s what preaching is like,” he explained. “You think you’re giving out something, you’re getting back more than you gave.”
Then, in a moment that shook the congregation, Bishop Jakes turned to Scripture, speaking those powerful words from Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace.”
That’s when our hearts stopped. The Bishop, who’s been a pillar of strength for our community, suddenly went quiet. Saints, it was like time stood still as we watched him appear to spasm in his chair, his eyes fixed in the distance. You should have seen how quickly the church family rushed to his aid – that’s what we do when one of our own needs help. While medical attention was being given, the congregation lifted him up in prayer, just as we’ve been taught.
Later that Sunday, his team posted on X what we’d all been praying to hear: “During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message.”
Thank the Lord, they confirmed he’s “stable and under the care of medical professionals.” The message concluded with words that touched our hearts: “The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”
Y’all keep on praying for Bishop Jakes. He’s been there for us through so many storms – now it’s our turn to be there for him.
