Black Girls In Tech (BGIT) has partnered with Motorway, the UK’s fastest-growing used car marketplace, to promote tech diversity and inclusivity.

BGIT is a community for Black women to share their experiences and resources for thriving in the white, male-dominated tech industry. Co-founders Karen Emelu and Valerie Oyiki previously told POCIT that BGIT began as a group chat.

Today, BGIT is an international organization providing a community, resources, and opportunities to Black women in tech.

Bootcamp to Hiring Pipeline

Motorway will be sponsoring BGIT’s first cohort of their free frontend development bootcamp.

The bootcamp will run from January to May 2023 and is designed to equip students with the skills and resources needed to become proficient frontend developers. The intensive program will cover topics such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive web design.

“We’re committed to supporting a bootcamp to job pipeline by hiring from a pool of Black Girls In Tech graduates”

“Black women are an underrepresented group in the tech industry, and we hope by sponsoring BGIT’s frontend bootcamp we will provide opportunities for women who are looking for a rewarding career in tech in a supportive environment,” said Jennifer Craddock, VP of People at Motorway.

“This partnership is something we’re extremely passionate about, and it means a lot to our team. Here’s to a great year of partnership ahead.”

Motorway has also committed to hiring from the BGIT bootcamp graduates pool. In an online statement, Motorway wrote:

“We’re committed to supporting a bootcamp to job pipeline by hiring from a pool of Black Girls In Tech graduates. We know the importance of developing new talent, and we’re dedicated to helping new graduates launch successful careers.”
