Black-Owned EdTech Company Launches Inclusive STEM Initiative: Project CASPER

Black-owned ed-tech company Nomadd Group has launched Project CASPER, an accelerated program implementing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs in underrepresented schools and communities.

Nomadd is a community development and STEM-accredited EdTech company that provides programs and services to uplift disinvested communities.

Founded by Kevin Horton, Nomadd’s vision is to create economic mobility for communities that lack access to information, technology and resources.

It focuses on re-skilling workers, developing the workforce, and promoting entrepreneurship while reforming the education system.

They aim to help implement STEM programs to improve learning environments for students and increase access to STEM pathways.

Project CASPER

Nomadd Group launched Project CASPER – Communities Accelerating STEM Programs for Economic Recovery – as an accelerated program to implement STEM in the schools and communities that need them the most.

Nomad highlights a national study that shows STEM programs have yet to be inclusive to students in the inner city and marginalized communities.

They also state that rapid digitization and automation of the U.S. economy is widening the racial wealth and tech gap and will disqualify Blacks from 86% of U.S. jobs by 2045.

This has contributed to glaring disparities and created a digital divide, a lack of access to STEM careers, income and generational wealth gap.

“We are so behind in every stretch of the imagination,” Horton told AfroTech.

“We don’t get the same access to technology. There’s no representation there. The school-to-prison pipeline is a real thing. We want to eradicate that and let these kids know there are more options to build wealth.”

Project CASPER focuses on implementing STEM learning acceleration programs to promote diversity, equity and inclusion while increasing students’ access to the courses.

They offer in-school courses, out-of-school time programs, carer and technical education programs, employee resource groups, community tech hubs, recruiting, and STEM training.
