Bold and Striking: Leo Fashion Stars You’ll Love

We let our zodiac signs determine if we should take a job, go on that trip, or break up with that friend. Why not use it to help us get dressed? Through this series, we will explore how our zodiac sign can inspire and enrich our wardrobes and help us put our best fit forward.

Leos are bold, creative and natural-born leaders. They are also a fire sign, which means they know how to bring on the heat, and this intensity often transfers over into their vestiary ventures as well. Since they are ruled by the sun, they find themselves partial to warm hues and bold pieces that speak to the main character nature of the fifth sign of the zodiac. They don’t call them the entertainers of the zodiac for nothing.

Leos are the moment — and they know it.

Repped by the king of the jungle, Leos exudes a unique sense of pride. It’s not about ego or self-centeredness but a deep-rooted self-assuredness that is reflected in their choices, both fashion-related and otherwise. We can see this in some of our favorite Hollywood hotties including Halle Berry and Viola Davis who wow us with their exuberant star quality, ability to grab attention with ease and record-breaking award runs.

They’re regal and fiery, and we can’t get enough of them. Here are some of our favorite Leo-style muses. From our favorite green-eyed hunk, Michael Ealy, to the woman who taught us all how to exhale, Angela Bassett, Leo’s style is poised and prime to dazzle a crowd and captivate an audience.

Read on for your fix of Leo-fueled fashion moments.

Halle Berry August 14, 1966

Our forever Catwoman, Halle Berry, has become synonymous with beauty and has spent the majority of her life in the limelight — a Leo’s natural habitat. The era-defining beauty has been the standard of fineness since she stepped on the scene, and she is used to having all eyes on her. The Cleveland native wears purple like a single skin, both in her clothing and in her hair. She also has the regal part down pat, often stepping out in gold gowns looking every bit a proud lioness.

Meagan Good August 8, 1981

Megan Good is another Leo who has been a pillar of the Black beauty spectrum and a head-turner through and through. Her sultry looks, of course, only attenuate that fact as she has popped out with iconic look after iconic look throughout her transition from early 2000s It Girl to bonafide icon. Her style evolution has played out across our screens for years and could serve as a case study for elevation. She has masterfully adapted to the times and managed to stay on trend, all while retaining the sultry je ne sais quoi that has made her a mainstay of Black culture for nearly 30 years.

Angela Bassett August 16, 1958

Angela Bassett has one of those dispositions that commands both attention and respect. Her style has a dignified aura that exudes royalty and demands respect in the best way possible. As a fire sign, she’s a natural at expressing female rage and looking immaculate while doing so. She’s been a vision in purple numerous times and her favorite accessory is undoubtedly her inner glow that radiates around her like a permanent halo.

Meghan Markle August 4, 1981

Meghan Markle truly took Leo’s inborn fondness for regalness to a new level with her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry. Her outfits certainly match the majestic glory she’d go on to live in real life — a manifestation queen if we’ve ever seen one. From her role as Rachel Zane on the TV show Suits to bumping elbows with the who’s who of the British monarchy, she has maintained a refined sense of style that is both timeless and fresh, an infamously hard chord to strike.

Michael Ealy August 3, 1973

Michael Ealy played The Perfect Guy in 2015, and it’s clear he pulled from his personal experience with being the quintessential Leo to good use. Ealy locked fans as our favorite hair-cutting barber shop as Ricky Nash and has dazzled us with his acting chops, iconic smolders and inimitable swagger ever since. A part of that star-quality package has been his outfits, which enhance his magnetism without overshadowing the stand-out qualities that have solidified his place in Black Hollywood royalty.

Like his zodiac match and Think Like a Man co-star Meagan Good, Leos are versatile in their sartorial seduction. Whether Ealy is donning a cozy beanie that complements his piercing baby blues, a comfy sweater or a full-blown tuxedo, he has a comfortable aura that allows him to seamlessly navigate our cultural lexicon with a hint of entrancement.

Viola Davis August 11, 1965

Viola Davis is one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry. From films like Fences to her award-winning role as Annalise Keating in the cult-favorite show How to Get Away with Murder, Davis is a generational talent with an iconic wardrobe to match. Whether it’s a jeweled purple gown or a shoulder-gazing lavender number, she knows how to make the full spectrum of purple hues work in her favor.

It takes talent, vigor and tenacity to reach the heights Davis has, including becoming the third Black woman to reach EGOT status. She reminds us why Leos are known as natural-born entertainers.

Vivica A. Fox July 30, 1964

Vivica A Fox’s career has spanned multiple genres, and whether she’s setting it off or teaching us just how many people can play that game, she has a knack for taking over our screens and our hearts. Her looks are both sophisticated yet sexy, giving us office siren realness before we even had the terminology to describe this look. She can give us champagne realness and make it look easy or switch it up with a fully lavender look — Leo’s signature hue.

She does her big one on the regular, and she does it well.
