(BPRW) COMMUNITY JUSTICE, GUN SAFETY GROUPS ANNOUNCE ENDORSEMENT OF PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN AND VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS FOR RE-ELECTION
Brady and Team ENOUGH, Community Justice Action Fund, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Its Grassroots Networks Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, and GIFFORDS Unveil Joint Endorsement of Strongest Gun Safety Administration Ahead of 2024 Election
(Black PR Wire) WASHINGTON – Recently, in a first-of-its-kind joint announcement, a coalition of gun safety groups announced their endorsement of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ reelection campaign. The groups part of today’s endorsement announcement include: Brady and Team ENOUGH, Community Justice Action Fund, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots volunteer networks Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, and GIFFORDS.
“Gun violence –– now the leading cause of death for all American children –– has touched the lives of countless Black and brown Americans, leaving communities and families torn apart. With their very first executive action on public safety, President Biden and Vice President Harris made historic investments in community violence intervention, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to treating gun violence as the public health emergency that it is, and taking the most significant strides toward ending this crisis in decades,” said Greg Jackson, Executive Director of Community Justice Action Fund. “From our gun violence epidemic to the economic disparities in our communities, the challenges we face are all interconnected. The Biden-Harris administration’s approach, from addressing the root causes of violence to supporting legislation that prioritizes the lives and well-being of our most vulnerable populations, recognizes that this complex issue requires a comprehensive solution that accounts for the underlying social, economic, and systemic factors contributing to this crisis. We believe in their leadership and vision for a nation free from the fear of gun violence, and Community Justice Action Fund proudly endorses their re-election.”
“Brady worked alongside Joe Biden when, as a senator, he took the NRA head-on and shepherded the Brady Bill through Congress and passed the nationwide assault weapons ban, saving countless lives. We’re proud to stand with him and Vice President Kamala Harris as they continue to prove themselves as the strongest champions for gun violence prevention to ever take residence in the White House. Thanks to their leadership and commitment to common-sense gun reform, we witnessed the passage of the most comprehensive federal gun violence prevention policy since the Brady Bill was signed into law nearly 30 years ago,” said Kris Brown, President of Brady and Chair, Brady PAC. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have already brought about historic progress, and Brady is proud to endorse them so they may continue to build upon their legacy.”
“President Biden and Vice President Harris’s unflinching commitment to ending gun violence has been evident from Day One,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Over the course of their historic first term, Congress broke a nearly 30-year logjam on gun safety and President Biden used his executive powers to support communities on the frontlines of this crisis and keep guns away from people with dangerous histories. Everytown is proud to endorse President Biden and Vice President Harris for re-election, and we look forward to creating a future that is free from the fear of gun violence.”
“Joe Biden is the leader we need. He has been by my side every step of the way in the fight to save lives from gun violence. He was there for me after I was shot. He was there for the Sandy Hook families after their children were shot and this movement began. He’s been there day after day for communities across the country,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of GIFFORDS. “The Biden-Harris Administration is working tirelessly every day to prevent gun violence. President Biden has been the strongest gun safety president in US history, from signing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law to regulating ghost guns and stabilizing braces. He has supported community violence intervention and cracked down on firearms trafficking and rogue gun dealers. He was there for me. He’ll be there for you too. I’m incredibly proud to endorse Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for reelection. The job’s not done and I know with them leading the fight we will continue to enact policies that will make American neighborhoods safer.”
“President Biden and Vice President Harris are leading the strongest gun sense administration in American history, a title they have earned by doing everything in their power to protect our families and communities,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, Executive Director of Moms Demand Action. “As Republican presidential hopefuls continue to put the gun industry profits ahead of public safety, our grassroots army is prepared to show up in full force for President Biden and Vice President Harris.”
“Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for America’s children, but it has long been a leading cause of death for Black and Brown children. President Biden and Vice President Harris have made crucial strides in addressing gun violence through a racial justice lens. Their understanding of systemic inequality has led to more meaningful approaches to ending this crisis, especially at a community level,” said Aalayah Eastmond, Parkland survivor and co-founder of Team ENOUGH. “We refuse to stand by as this epidemic continues to traumatize our generation. We will make sure, with the full might of our youth-led grassroots movement, that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are reelected so they may keep up the fight to end gun violence.”
This is the first time the groups have jointly announced a presidential endorsement. The announcement comes amid peaks in gun violence in America, including the deadliest six months of mass killings in nearly two decades and new data showing an all-time high in gun suicide, especially among Black teens. Consistent polling shows that gun violence is increasingly a top issue for voters, especially young voters and Black and Latino voters. A FOX News poll showed large majorities of voters, including those in gun-owning households, favor common-sense gun safety measures, including expanded background checks and an assault weapons ban. Ahead of Election Day, each of the organizations have robust plans to educate and mobilize their broad coalition of tens of millions of advocates, parents, students, survivors, responsible gun owners, and others in the gun violence prevention movement and will be key to a Biden-Harris victory.
The Biden-Harris Administration is the strongest gun safety administration in history. Their unwavering commitment to gun violence prevention is demonstrated by President Biden’s signing and implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, confirmation of an ATF director for the first time in seven years, historic executive actions to address gun violence, his long record of taking on the NRA and passing life-saving laws, Vice President Kamala Harris’ years of gun safety advocacy, and the unmatched gun sense cabinet they have built. The Biden-Harris Administration has prioritized gun safety since entering office, from combating deadly, untraceable ghost guns and helping close the background check loophole, to finalization of the stabilizing arm brace rule, to the comprehensive strategy to address gun violence that includes efforts to fight gun trafficking, investments in community violence intervention programs, and more.
