(BPRW) ORISE is Accepting Applications for FBI Counterterrorism Forensic Science Research Unit Chemical Analysis of Primary Explosives Program
(Black PR Wire) OAK RIDGE, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is currently accepting applications for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Counterterrorism Forensic Science Research Unit (CFSRU) Visiting Scientist Program (VSP) Chemical Analysis of Primary Explosives (CAPE) program. This program is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for early career scientists and recent graduates to participate in forensic science research at the FBI Laboratory, one of the largest and most comprehensive crime labs in the world.
Participants in the CAPE program may be involved in research, including detection of explosives, characterization and comparison of forensic materials, mass spectrometry applications to chemical analyses, and development of instrumental methods in ion and liquid chromatography.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens; have completed requirements for a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree within the last five years or complete all the requirements for the degree by the anticipated start date of the appointment; relocate to Quantico, Va.; and undergo an extensive FBI background investigation and meet suitability criteria.
The year-long, paid appointment offers specialized training, leadership development and professional networking with extensive interaction and collaboration with leading FBI CFSRU scientists and researchers. The initial appointment is scheduled for one year but may be renewed upon the recommendation of the FBI contingent upon the availability of funds.
Ideal candidates will have an academic background and relevant professional experience in a field related to the FBI’s mission and must be seeking to gain knowledge and experience in forensic science applications of scientific techniques. Relevant research or professional experience may include, but is not limited to analytical chemistry and analytical method development, and statistical analysis applied to design of experiments, chemistry and physical sciences.
