Anastasios Manettas, Esq, was charged with possessing illegal drugs and assaulting an officer on April 20. The incident occurred around 9:30 am when officers found the attorney possessing prescription drugs without their packaging. When the officers attempted to take the lawyer into custody, he threw his cell phone to a colleague to avoid it from being taken into possession. Unfortunately, the phone hit an officer in the courtroom, leading to the assault charge.
The attorney was charged with two counts of drug possession for having prescription pills not in their original container, one count of obstruction, and one count of simple battery on a law enforcement officer. This incident adds to the ongoing legal issues faced by Young Thug’s alleged gang, YSL, as their trial continues.
Meanwhile, on April 19th, defendant Roderius Ryan, also known as YSL Lil Rod, was charged with marijuana possession after officers found the drug stitched into his underwear during a strip search. Detectives suspected him of possession after noticing the smell of weed. When officers attempted to lead him to a back-holding cell in the court to conduct the search, he started yelling and resisting, causing a disruption in the courtroom. Other defendants in the courtroom got up from their seats, and officers had to handcuff them and clear the courtroom.
Despite the recent release of Gunna, another member of Young Thug’s YSL, the legal troubles for the group continue to mount. Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, remains behind bars on RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) charges, along with several other members of the group. The charges against them stem from allegations of drug trafficking, money laundering, and other illegal activities.
A new documentary called Rap Trap: Hip-Hop On Trial will highlight the trial and rappers’ freedom of speech.
