Courtney B. Vance has just one wish for his birthday this year — for his wife Angela Bassett to finally win an Oscar.
Bassett is nominated for best supporting actress for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Vance told HipHollywood a win for his wife will be even more special because Oscar Sunday is also his 63rd birthday.
“She’s one of those people that everything she does, she’s inhabits. So, you know, the role that we all know was Tina,” he said referencing her work as Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”
“But the one the that will go down in history for her will be Wakanda. She’s our queen. And the fact that she’s being honored for it, being lifted up, and it’s tumbling toward the Oscars on my birthday on March 12th. So that’s my birthday. That’s all I want for my birthday present. That’s right.”
Angela is having quite a successful award season, nabbing (and winning a Golden Globe) for best supporting actress, a Screen Actors Guild nomination, an NAACP Image Award for “Entertainer of the Year”, an African American Film Critics Association Award and a Hollywood Critics Association Award.
Vance told us he is manifesting an Academy Award for his Bassett, who was last nominated in 1995.
“Well, I know she is in my spirit, so I’m just waiting for it to manifest,” he said while on the red carpet for the NAACP Image Awards. “It’s done in the spirit and the natural I’m just going to be waiting for it. So it’s all good. I can wait.”
Well we are certainly rooting for Bassett to win come Sunday as well. While on the carpet we also got celebs to tell us (and act out) their favorite Bassett roles.
