Dave Chappelle just may have pulled a fast one on ‘Saturday Night Live’ producers minutes before delivering his monologue.
According to Page Six, Chappelle did a “fake” monologue during the show’s dress rehearsal, and then switched his material for the live show.
A source told Page Six: “Dave does a fake monologue during the dress rehearsal, because he doesn’t want [‘SNL’ creator] Lorne Michaels, or anyone else, to know what his real monologue is.”
The source added that Chappelle made a joke during the dress rehearsal about a writer who refused to work with him this week on the show. You recall there were reports that a handful of ‘SNL’ staff writers decided to boycott over Chappelle hosting.
During Chappelle’s live 15-minute monologue there was no mention of a boycott, instead he took aim at Kanye West, Kyrie Irving, Donald Trump, Herchel Walker … and The Jews.
Jonathan Greenblatt, of the Anti-Defamation League blasted Chappelle for “popularizing” anti-Semitism with his jokes. Jewish activist Rudy Rochman also slammed Chappelle’s “meticulous & calculated move to desensitize the population from anti-Semitism.”
Elsewhere on Twitter folks were calling him the GOAT and singing his praises.
Dave Chappelle had one of IF* not the GR8est opening monologues in SNL history. That was a VIRTUOSO. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I’m Jewish and i really don’t know why everybody’s freaking out about dave chappelle on SNL. He is a comedian whose job is to cross lines. If anything his treatment of Jews was extremely tame compared to any of the other groups he makes fun of. Laugh and move on it’s OK pic.twitter.com/ceehylKLfm

“You’re Jewish, do you think @DaveChappelle monologue was anti-Semitic?”
Fuck no. The guy is a comedic genius. He’s telling jokes and making funny points at the same time. The last thing Jews should be doing is losing their sense of humour.

I have such mixed feelings about Dave Chappelle, but he is easily one of the GOATs of comedy, and has always been able to sprinkle a lot of truth in between his jokes. pic.twitter.com/DomgKGQAvi

Of course we want to know your thoughts. Did Chappelle’s monologue solidify his GOAT status or push him closer to cancellation?
