Bowie State University has named a theater after the music legend Dionne Warwick. Located within the HBCU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, the Dionne Warwick Theater was named in her honor for her years of humanitarian efforts throughout her career. After an unveiling on Saturday morning, the singer said that she is “excited and thrilled.”

Lamar Odom Opens Addiction Treatment Centers

Former professional NBA player Lamar Odom has opened up multiple addiction treatment centers in San Diego, El Cajon and Lemon Grove, California.. After dealing with his own addiction journey, he decided to pay forward the assistance and support he received. In a quote shared by the Daily Mail, a representative for Odom shared, “He wants to help everyone he can. He is thankful that he was given a second chance at his life and feels his destiny is to help others.”

Strength of a Woman Festival Announces “The Purpose Ball”

Today, Mary J. Blige, Pepsi and Live Nation Urban announced that they will host The Purpose Ball: Bridging the Gap. Slated to take place during the Strength of a Woman concert and Summit on Sunday, May 14, 2023, the event will honor the LGBTQIA+ community’s impact of culture and bring to light issues that affect the community’s livelihood. Actor and social advocate Miss Lawrence will produce the event.

“The Purpose Ball is about bridging the gap,” said Miss Lawrence in a statement. “Partnering with the Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit on this historical event will aid in doing just that… bridging the gaps that divide us. Ballroom is a part of Black Culture, Black History, and Black Excellence—from the Black ‘mothers,’ Black ‘fathers’ and Black ‘children.’ WE ALL SLAY! For that, I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity!”
