DOJ Shares Findings on Louisville Metro Police Department
In light of Breonna Taylor’s unjust death at the hands of Louisville police in 2020, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has release a lengthy report on the state of the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). The report exposed animalistic practices executed by the LMPD and their patterns of targeting Black people in particular.
“LMPD cites people for minor offenses, like wide turns and broken taillights, while serious crimes like sexual assault and homicide go unsolved. Some officers demonstrate disrespect for the people they are sworn to protect. Some officers have videotaped themselves throwing drinks at pedestrians from their cars; insulted people with disabilities; and called Black people ‘monkeys,’ ‘animal,’ and ‘boy,'” stated the report. President Biden shared that this report was long overdue.
