QuestLove to Direct Live Action Remake of Aristocats

Co-founder of The Roots and award-winning director QuestLove has been tapped to direct a remake of Disney’s The Aristocats. The classic 1970s film follows a mother cat and her three kittens after they were cat-napped and abandoned in France. It became known for its popular jazzy song, “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat.” The hybrid reimagining will use CGI and live-action techniques to bring the story to life.

This comes fresh off the heels of his announcement about the launch of AUWA Books, a publishing imprint owned by QuestLove.

Florida School Bans ‘Ruby Bridges’ Movie

A school in Tallahassee, Florida has banned the usage of the Disney film detailing the historic events of Ruby Bridges’ integration of a public school in the 1960s. A parent named Emily Conklin believes that the film would encourage the narrative that “white people hate Black people”. This instance comes as parents and school systems continue to erase the facts of history from the American school system.

Gordon Parks Foundation Announces Awards Dinner and Auction

Today, the Gordon Parks Foundation announced its upcoming Awards dinner and auction. Taking place on May 23, 2023, the event will honor scholar and activist Angela Y. Davis, artist Amy Sherald, businesswoman and philanthropist Clara Wu Tsai. Proceeds from the event will support The Gordon Parks Foundation’s mission to support upcoming generations of artists.
