R.Kelly’s New Album Leaked From Prison
A new project from the currently imprisoned and disgraced artist R. Kelly was leaked today. Titled “I Admit,” was inspired by a 19 minute track previously released this year. Many of the tracks have been circulating across the internet for almost two decades. Since its initial leak, “I Admit” has been removed from streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music at the request of the distributor. Although it days that it was released under Sony’s Legacy moniker, it was put out by Los Angeles-based label Real Talk Entertainment.
Tina Turner’s Son Ronnie Turner Passes Away
Ronnie Turner, son of Tina Turner, has passed away at the age of 62. After having trouble breathing for some time, paramedics confirmed his death on the scene. Tina Turner confirmed her son’s death in a statement saying, “Ronnie, you left the world far too early. In sorrow I close my eyes and think of you, my beloved son.”
His wife paid tribute to him in an instagram post. “…I did the best to the end this time I was no[t]able to save you. Love you for… 17 years this is very very very bad and I am very mad. This is a tragedy u with your brother Craig and your father Ike Turner and Aline rest in paradise… So unfair.” This is Turner’s second son to pass away in the past four years.
Biden Administration Extends Temporary Legal Status to Haitians Living in the US
In light of the continued unrest in Haiti, the Biden Administration is granting extended immigration protections for Haitians living in the United States. These additional protections include access to work permits and deferral from deportation. Advocates of Haiti have previously called on President Biden to take excessive action and come to the aid of the Haitian people. The civil unrest has exacerbated living conditions in the country since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021.
Van Jones Issues Apology On Behalf of the Black Community for Perceived “Silence” Regarding Anti-Semitism
At a dinner hosted by the UJA-Federation of New York Wall Street, lawyer and political commentator Van Jones issued a universal apology on behalf of the Black community for what he perceived as “silence” regarding Kanye West. Jones sorrowfully expressed his disappointment in Black people for allowing “an African American icon praising Hitler and Nazis, and we act like we don’t know where that hatred came from.”
Issa Rae Teams Up With Walmart to Launch a Program for Black Creators
Issa Rae’s Hoorae Media has announced a joint partnership with Walmart to aid the efforts of Black content creators. The initiative, called Black & Unlimited Digital Development Program, selected Alex Hill, Amanda S. Wicks, Archie Jay, Brelynn Hunt, Cam Sullivan-Brown, Destiny Aaiyana, Mariah Jae, Chef Shaiheem and Tyris Winter as inaugural participants. They will be granted resources and opportunities to hone their skills and advance their content creation.
“Hoorae is proud to partner with Walmart to support Black creators as they share their content with new audiences. With the support of the Black & Unlimited Digital Development initiative, the selected creators will expand their brands and develop their voices in our underrepresented industry,” said Issa Rae, EBONY’s 2022 Power 100 People’s Choice award honoree in a statement.
