Tory Lanez Files Appeal of Guilty Verdict

After being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion a few months ago, rapper Tory Lanez has filed an appeal of his guilty verdict. His attorney Jose Baez claims that the verdict was based upon the “erroneous” allowance of jurors to view comments Lanez made on social media regarding the shooting. Additionally, Baez claims that the jury should not have been allowed to hear an 80-minute interview that the prosecution had with Kelsey Harris, a former friend of Megan.

Damar Hamlin Advocates For More AEDs In Schools

Buffalo Bills player and recent cardiac arrest survivor Damar Hamlin attended an event on Capitol Hill in support of an increased presence of AEDs—automated external defibrillators—on school campuses nationwide. While in the middle of a game in January, Hamlin collapsed on the field and has since made a total recovery.

“Sudden cardiac arrest happens to more than 7,000 kids under the age of 18 every year in our country – 7,000 kids every year. The majority of the kids impacted are student-athletes, and research shows that 1 in every 300 youth has an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk. For schools that have AEDs, the survival rate for the children from sudden cardiac arrest is seven times higher,” expressed Hamlin in a statement.

North Carolina A&T to Host Inaugural Black Anime Conference

This Saturday, students of North Carolina A&T will host its first-ever anime conference. The Anime Aggies Convention will take place on campus in the Deese Ballroom and celebrate the students’ love for anime, a form of animation rooted in Japanese culture. The club is home to approximately 450 students.

“It originally started as a small thing for people to come and talk about anime,” shared NCAT student Rose Jackson to the Triad City Beat. She continued, “In our community, the Black community, liking anime is kind of frowned upon. So I wanted to open that gateway and say, ‘You can like what you like,’ and start a community to make friendships, open up the conversation.” Jackson founded the Anime Aggies club in 2021.
