Tory Lanez Faces 22 Years Iin Prison

Prosecutors in the Tory Lanez case against Megan Thee Stallion are seeking a harsher sentence against the rapper. Due to Lanez’s “high level of callousness” and “indifference for human life,” attorneys for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office believe that he deserves up to 22 years in prison. Lanez is set to be sentenced on June 13, 2023, after he was denied a new trial for what he believed to be a “miscarriage of justice.”

Police Do a Wellness Check on Ja Morant

Shelby County Sheriff’s Department conducted a wellness check on Ja Morant following concerning messages on social media. The Memphis Grizzlies player posted and deleted messages on his Instagram Stories telling family members that he loved them before writing “bye.” According to the sheriff’s department, “Deputies checked on Ja Morant at his residence this morning and he is fine. He advised us that he is taking a break from social media.”

NYC’s Former Colored School No. 4 Becomes a Historic Landmark

The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission voted unanimously voted to turn the former Colored School No. 4 into a historic landmark. The school—located on West 17th Street in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan—was a segregation-era academic institution built for Black children during slavery. Historian Eric K. Washington initially filed this request in 2018 and it was finally passed five years later.
