Wilson’s post, which has since been deleted, is the latest in a series from the past year where he called out major artists for not doing interviews or press runs with Black media personalities or outlets. One notable call-out was directed at Drake, who rarely gives on-camera extensive sit-down interviews. In 2023, Drake did interviews with Lil Yachty, Bobbi Althoff, and Caleb Pressley, all of whom are White journalists known for their satirical line of questioning. Drake eventually commented under a post of Wilson doing backstage interviews at Rolling Loud and instructed the veteran personality to “just admit the youth took over, big dog.”

Cenat has hosted some of rap’s biggest stars on his streams, including 21 Savage, Lil Baby, Ice Spice, G Herbo, NLE Choppa, DDG, Lil RT, and Lil Yachty. Many of these artists have publicly stated their aversion to traditional interviews and have done few on-camera sit-downs in recent years. Cenat’s platform offers artists a more relaxed and pressure-free environment to engage his vast audience while promoting their work.

Minaj responded to Wilson’s post, stating, “Elliott, if you’d spit Jay-Z d— out for one second, you’d be able to be happy for the newcomers.” She criticized him for not supporting young Black artists like Kai. She accused him of previously trying to tarnish her image by suggesting she wasn’t welcoming to new talent despite her collaborating with many of them. Minaj later addressed Wilson live on Instagram, expressing her grievances over his past comments about her.

Wilson took to social media to apologize to Cenat.

“I apologize to @KaiCenat + his fam,” Wilson posted on X. “I was out of line and let my competitive nature get the best of me. Kai carved his own lane in the game, built a great platform and deserves respect. Salute the streamers and young creatives getting to the paper and pushing our culture forward.”
