One of the most challenging aspects for Hispanic students pursuing a degree is a lack of funds. For this reason, one of the biggest ways that SHPE helps the future generation of STEM students is by awarding well over $1,000,000 in scholarships per year to Hispanic students in varying stages of their educational pursuit. For example, SHPE’s scholarship program, ScholarSHPE, awarded 346 scholarships totaling over $1,800,00 last year.
Who is eligible?
ScholarSHPE opportunities are available to students who identify with one of the following:
Graduating high school seniors beginning a STEM undergraduate degree at a community college or 4-year university.Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in STEM at any point during their undergraduate program and are enrolled full-time at a community college or 4-year university.Graduate students pursuing a master’s or doctoral STEM degree program at an accredited school.Students and professionals pursuing technical certificates or graduate-level educations that increase their knowledge in the STEM field.

How do I apply?
Once you have become a SHPE member, you will be eligible to fill out the ScholarSHPE Common Application, which allows you to apply to multiple scholarship opportunities at once. This includes scholarships that are funded by SHPE’s partners. Once you fill out this form, you will be notified on your application status and also about other scholarship opportunities that you can apply for.
The application period usually opens at the beginning of November and will close in April. If you are chosen to receive a scholarship, you will be notified at some point during the summer. You may start your application and come back to it as often as you’d like, as long as it is fully completed by the April deadline.
