Gucci Mane
*Rapper Gucci Mane may have succeeded in presenting himself now as a decent family man and philanthropist, but this is his new version. Before he teamed up with his wife Keyshia Ka’oir in working overtime to rehabilitate his image, he was someone you would not want to cross paths with in a dark corridor. Gucci Mane, 43, has a long criminal history dating back to his teenage years.
Gucci Mane even wanted to join the Black Mafia Family (BMF) in Atlanta, according to aspiring rapper Bleu DaVinci. That’s how determined in crime Gucci Mane was in those days. But fortunately or unfortunately, BMF boss Big Meech rejected his application. Big Meech (real name Demetrius Flenory) was picky about whom to let into the gang. Not everyone who sought to be a member was accepted. Yes, even criminals have standards.
BMF had to have strict standards. After all, it was a major cocaine trafficking organization in the United States. The feds knew about BMF. Gucci Mane better counts himself lucky that his application was rejected, considering the fact that Big Meech himself is now serving time after he was charged with cocaine trafficking.
In an interview with “Cam Capone News,” DaVinci gave details of the rejection that saved Gucci from a possible long jail term or something worse. So why did Big Meech specifically reject Gucci? According to DaVinci, it was because of the rapper’s reputation as an armed robber. You would imagine being an armed robber would improve his chances of being accepted into Big Meech’s gang, but that wasn’t the case.

DaVinci explained the rejection thus, “Gucci’s a street n***a. He just be outside all the time and s**t. Gucci was like a part-time jack boy, part-time dope dealer, and part-time rapper. Gucci was a slash man. I knew Gucci before I knew Jeezy.”
He added, “Gucci used to always be in the club, on the wall looking at n***s with a drink in his hand with his hat down, trying to get him a victim. Meech knew him. He was cool, and he used to try to get down with the mob, but Meech was telling n****s like, ‘Nah man, this n***a be out here robbing n***s and s**t. We can’t have no n***s that’s known robbers.’”
But being rejected by BMF didn’t stop Gucci Mane from doing what the gang was primarily doing. In 2001, he was sentenced to 90 days in the county jail after being arrested on cocaine charges. In 2005, he was charged with fatally shooting Pookie Loc, an aspiring rapper and gang banger named. However, he walked away scot-free in 2006 after the DeKalb County district attorney’s office dropped the murder charge.
He continued to have endless run-ins with the law; in 2014, the rapper pleaded guilty to being in possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He walked out of prison in May 2016 after 2 years.
