Chase for Business Coaching for Impact program provides business owners with complimentary 1:1 consulting plus opportunities and resources to help them succeed.
Ask any business owner, and they’ll tell you how challenging it can be to navigate the ins and outs of entrepreneurship.
Every day, Branden Morris gets to witness a small business success story in Houston. As a Chase for Business Senior Business Consultant, he works with small business owners to help them discover ways to scale and grow.
For Morris, though, it’s not really work at all. It’s a passion. He and his colleagues know firsthand what it’s like to navigate small business ownership.
“We’ve been business owners, we were raised in families of entrepreneurs, and we come from environments where we see that if this person just had a chance or if this person just had access to this, just think of what they could have been,” he said.
Indeed, maximizing potential and removing obstacles is what fuels the Chase for Business Coaching for Impact program, which Morris said is some of the most rewarding time he gets to spend with clients.
Coaching for Impact provides business owners with complimentary 1:1 consulting along with other opportunities and resources to help them succeed. It’s particularly instrumental for the underbanked and underserved – helping to bridge that equity gap for those small business owners who may not have the same access to coaching and resources is the heart behind this program.
Through four primary focus areas, the Coaching for Impact program helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses and, in return, strengthen and improve the communities that they serve.
Personalized Coaching Sessions
One of the most integral parts of the Coaching for Impact program is the personalized 1:1 consulting from business mentors who guide participants in developing business strategies, improving operations, and addressing specific challenges while providing accountability. These coaching sessions offer practical information for running a business — from business planning to marketing and beyond — while sharing guidance on managing finances, including credit and proper use of capital.
Workshops and Training
The Coaching for Impact program also introduces workshops and training on topics like financial management, operations management, cash flow, business development, access to capital, and how to build a team. Examples of training sessions, which typically last about 45 minutes, include:
Networking Opportunities
Through the Coaching for Impact program’s networking opportunities, participants can connect with other entrepreneurs, industry experts, and potential partners—including local ambassadors and community leaders.
Morris loves the power of these events because they unlock new levels for small businesses.
“I’m introducing them to key people that they need to know — whether it’s someone from a corporation who’s a buyer or the leader of an entrepreneurship center or an accelerator,” he said. “I’ve had clients who take my advice on how to engage within a networking group by attending meetings and joining committees, and suddenly, they’re gaining more clients and contracts because they understand the power of familiarity and nurturing and creating relationships with other people.”
Resource Access
The Coaching for Impact program offers tools such as business templates, financial planning resources, podcast episodes, and online courses to enhance participants’ skills. Even if you’re not a participant in the program, you can access many of these resources here.
While traditional banking solutions for small businesses focus primarily on capital and money management, the Coaching for Impact program is different. Chase Senior Business Consultants (SBCs), like Morris, are committed to helping small business owners achieve their goals while understanding that each person’s needs are different — whether they want to improve cash flow management, improve marketing strategies, scale operations, or learn how to build a team of trusted advisors. So, SBCs approach each program participant individually and then set clear, actionable goals and conduct regular check-ins and feedback sessions over the course of about three to four months.
“The program offers a support system that empowers small business owners to thrive, rather than only recommending or providing financial products,” added Morris.
Coaching for Impact is open to small businesses that have been operating for more than two years — and you do not need to be a Chase customer to participate.
If you’re just starting out in your entrepreneurial journey, Morris said he still encourages business owners to connect with an SBC. Not only can they provide a roadmap of additional resources, but they can also offer referrals to partnered entrepreneurship and resource centers.
For example, in Houston alone, there’s a chapter of the Urban League Entrepreneurship Center that offers a Small Business University (SBU) cohort that anyone can join. Another resource in town is the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a program of the University of Houston (UH) system, which offers business advising and training.
