How Keke Palmer, Rosario Dawson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Are Staying Busy During the SAG-AFTRA Strike

Since the SAG-AFTRA strike launched on July 14, actors have stopped making films and TV shows, halted publicity and press interviews to promote their current projects and taken to the picket lines to express their grievances with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers as they fight for better residuals and protection from AI productions. That’s left many celebrities with more time on their hands, and they’re putting that rare opportunity to good use.

New mom and the always-working Keke Palmer is taking this time to focus on her physique. On her Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, she revealed that it’s part of the job of being a movie star. But she made it clear that her profession has afforded her luxuries like a personal trainer and meal prep. “I don’t want people to think that I’m also setting unrealistic standards—because I can afford a trainer,” she confessed. “I can afford a lot of things, and it’s expensive, but I’m investing in my career because it’s my career to look good.” She’s also the newest face of Zenni Optical’s newest collection, which EBONY reported in July.

Haunted Mansion star Rosario Dawson ditched her red carpet gowns for blue jeans, sneakers and a cut-off tee to host the Beach Clean-Up 2023 at 2023 US Open of Surfing, presented by SHISEIDO Blue Project in Huntington Beach, California, on August 2, 2023. For the past four years, the global skincare and makeup brand and the World Surf League have led a mission to clean up the earth’s largest bodies of water by 2030.

Some are putting their money behind the strike. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson donated up to $1 million to support the financial efforts of SAG-AFTRA, as more actors apply for emergency aid to support themselves they’re not working. SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance responded with praise for the generosity of Johnson and other A-listers. “Thanks to the support of some of Hollywood’s top-earning stars, the foundation is preparing to bring aid and hope to thousands of journeymen actors facing tremendous economic hardship,” Vance shared via a statement.
