Because of how outspoken Seales has always been in the media, a lot of fans long theorized about an issue between her and the rest of the Insecure cast.

During her appearance on Club Shay Shay earlier this year, the actress and comedian validated those rumors, opening up about the origins of her beef with Issa Rae.

Their problems seemingly stem from an incident with Rae’s publicist, Vanessa Anderson. During a 2019 Emmys party for Black artists, Seales was removed at the request of Anderson, which Amanda later made public.

Then in 2020, Seales was noticeably absent from an Insecure party leading to speculation that she was not invited to the festivities.

“[Issa] called me and said, ‘Hey, I heard what happened this weekend. I just want you to know I have nothing to do with it. Would you be willing to talk to Vanessa?’” Seales told Shannon Sharpe about the 2019 incident. That phone conversation consisted of Anderson admitting that she didn’t like the actress, which is why she had her removed from the party.

After alleging that Anderson went on to launch a “smear campaign” against her, Seales says she was even more upset that none of her costars seemed to care about the anguish the whole situation caused her.

“Nobody’s saying nothing to me,” she explained. “Everybody knows, because at this time, it’s just the women shooting. Everybody knows what’s going on. They don’t say nothing to me. And that’s just f*****g mean. It’s mean.”

Amanda also spoke on the idea that she was “mean girl” on the set of the HBO series, asking, “How can I be a mean girl on a set that ain’t my set? How? It’s your show. You are my boss. I don’t even have the capacity to be the mean girl here because you can fire me.”

Now, Issa is speaking about their feud for the very first time, throwing a little shade Seales’ way after being asked about colleagues she would never work with again.

The Breakfast Club played audio from an event in Brooklyn for Rae’s wine brand Viarae, during which she was asked about people she would not work with again. To this, Rae responded, “I mean anyone who goes on a podcast and talks s**t about me!”

Of course, Issa didn’t name any names, but this answer got a huge response from the crowd, who seemed to realize that Amanda Seales was the last person to talk poorly about Rae on a podcast.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Issa also addressed encouraging Vanessa Anderson and Amanda to mend fences with a phone call.

“I wanted two adults to, you know, have a conversation and mend the relationship—two adults who didn’t like each other, and it didn’t work out and we got back to work,” said the Insecure creator according to Complex.
