Jay-Z Named in Amended Lawsuit Alleging Sexual Assault at 2000 Afterparty – African American News and Issues
A woman has expanded her lawsuit originally filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs to include allegations that she was also sexually assaulted by Jay-Z during the same incident. This development marks the first time Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been implicated in connection to Combs.
The lawsuit, initially filed in October, was updated to name Carter as a defendant. The plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, claims she was 13 years old when the alleged assaults occurred at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards. According to her, she felt disoriented after drinking at the party, ended up in a bedroom, and was subsequently assaulted by Carter and then Combs. She reportedly struck Combs and fled the scene.
Previously identified in the suit only as “Celebrity A,” Carter has denied the accusations, calling them unfounded and demanding the plaintiff disclose her identity or face dismissal of the case. His legal team argued that Carter cannot fairly defend himself against such serious allegations while the accuser remains anonymous, stating that revealing her identity could allow witnesses to challenge her claims.
Doe’s legal representatives accused Carter of engaging in intimidation tactics against her and her legal team. They claim Carter orchestrated harassment to dissuade her from amending the lawsuit. Despite these alleged efforts, the plaintiff proceeded with naming him, describing the actions against her legal counsel as egregious.
Carter criticized the allegations as baseless, referring to them as a “blackmail attempt” and expressing frustration over the impact on his family. He expressed sorrow over the need to explain these claims to his children, lamenting the loss of innocence they would endure as a result of the publicity.
This case has drawn significant attention due to previous allegations against Combs. In September, Combs was charged with sex trafficking and related offenses, to which he pleaded not guilty. He has denied wrongdoing in multiple civil suits filed against him.
Separately, Carter referenced prior accusations against Doe’s attorney, suggesting a pattern of similar cases. The attorney, however, refuted claims of extortion, maintaining that the allegations in the lawsuit are serious and will be pursued through the courts.
The situation continues to develop as legal proceedings move forward. Both Carter and Combs deny any involvement in the alleged incident, and the plaintiff’s legal team insists on seeking justice despite the challenges.
