*it’s always sad to report the passing of any notable, but when that person is only 31 it’s really a sad proposition. But that’s where we are because Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, son of musician Stephen Marley and the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley, has died.

It was radio station WZPP in South Florida that posted on Instagram that it had confirmed Jo Mersa’s passing. The post also said he died of an asthma attack.

The reggae artist was reported to have been found unresponsive in a vehicle, according to an initial tweet by journalist Abka Fitz-Henley on Tuesday.

Joseph attended Miami Dade College and studied audio engineering after spending his early years in Jamaica.

True reggae fans are more than familiar with his grandfather who was a pioneer in the reggae movement and known for songs including “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright,” “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Is This Love,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “No Woman, No Cry” and more, reports the NY Post.

Bob Marley, who had 11 children with 7 different women, died in 1981 of melanoma. And like his grandson, Jo Mersa, he died young as well at only 36.
