Trumpeter Johnny Britt releases 7th solo album ‘After We Play.”
*“It fell into place,” said Trumpeter Johnny Britt (The Temptations) about his 7th album “After We Play” featuring Peter White (guitar), Will Downing (vocals), multi-Grammy nominated Gerald Albright (sax), and Grammy-winning George Benson (guitar). “When you do an album, it’s kind of organic…like my songs. It’s a creative process getting these people together.”
The “After We Play” project also features Little Anthony (Imperials) on vocals and Billboard Chart Topping guitarist Nils, Kashan (guitar), Ricky Peterson (keyboards), Blair Bryant (bass), and trumpeter Tom Browne. The first single from the project was the title track (instrumental) with Peter White, which reached #1 on the charts. The second single “Butterflies” features Will Downing, and it reached the Top 5 on the R&B Chart. The cover single “Goin’ Out of My Head” featuring Little Anthony premiered on Soul Tracks.
“There’s different stories like with Will Downing and Peter White, they came through my radio show…it’s London based,” Johnny told me when asked. “It’s a two-hour show. I DJ the first hour and the second hour I have celebrity guests.”
Johnny Britt became the youngest musical director when he was hired by The Temptations. That led to him co-producing the Emmy-winning miniseries “The Temptations.” He released four albums as a member of the Motown Jazz label called Impromp2, and he is a recent member of Little Anthony’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group the Imperials, and will be touring with them this summer. This summer the living legend will also be releasing his autobiography titled “The Soloist.” He also garnered a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. Britt has written three #1 hits for Boney James.
“The second single was released for Valentine’s Day,” Britt added. “The first single went straight to #1. I really feel in my spirit it’s going to win a Grammy. It’s had a phenomenal response.” www.JohnnyBritt.com
