Kelly Rowland gaffe: She met Meghan Markle in 2014 but forgot she did

Call it a momentary memory lapse and you wouldn’t be far from right. Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland claimed that she met the Duchess of Sussex for the first time at an event in September, but their initial encounter actually occurred back in 2014.

It appears that time can play tricks on the memory, even when you’re rubbing shoulders with royalty. A dig into the archive from Meghan Markle’s former lifestyle blog, “The Tig”, showed a photo of Rowland and Markle at New York Fashion Week alongside stylist Joe Zee.

Rowland during her recent interview with Hello! magazine said that Markle had a regal quality even before becoming a part of the royal family. “I don’t know what people expect to see or to know, but she just felt very cool and very down to earth. She is very warm.”

Rowland emphasized the belief that everyone possesses an inherent sense of royalty and should carry themselves with that same dignity and self-worth in their lives.

Markle made global headlines when she married Prince Harry in 2018. They later had two children together. In 2020, they made the decision to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, relocating to Montecito, California.

Rowland’s positive remarks about Markle’s character stand in contrast to the criticism expressed by Lady Glenconner, a close friend of the late Queen Elizabeth, who recently condemned Markle’s departure from the royal institution three years ago, according to the New York Post.

Speaking on the “Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth” podcast show, Lady Glenconner indicated that Markle may not have fully understood the expectations of royal life. She added that Markle may have had misconceptions, perhaps equating it to being just another role for an actress.
