A high court in Kenya has convicted a man who allegedly killed a college student after she turned down his advances. According to Citizen Digital, Mustafa Idd being found guilty of murder comes four years after Emma Wanyota, 21, was found dead at her home.

Eldoret High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi in Thursday’s ruling determined Idd murdered the victim. Wanyota was said to be badly mutilated and without some body parts when she was found. It is also suspected that her legs were chopped off after she was raped.

In the wake of the fatal incident, Wanyota’s sister, Sheila Wanyotta, said Idd and the victim were previously dating, adding that they knew him very well. “After parting ways with my sister in August, he has been threatening her and also all the male contacts in her phonebook,” said Sheila.

Idd will be sentenced on November 22.

In June, an Egyptian man on death row for killing a woman who rejected his advances was executed by prison authorities in the North African nation. According to VOA, Mohamed Adel was sentenced to death last year after a court found him guilty of the “premeditated murder” of Nayera Ashraf. The punishment was handed to Adel after he admitted to killing his fellow female student.

The fatal encounter, which happened outside Ashraf’s university, was captured on video and drew outrage in the North African nation. Prior to the killing, Ashraf had notified authorities about her fears of being harmed, with prosecutors also saying that Adel sent the victim a message, threatening to “cut her throat.”
