King/Drew Baseball Defeats Dorsey – Los Angeles Sentinel

The King/Drew baseball team has a 7-4 overall record(Jevone Moore/L.A. Sentinel)

The King/Drew Golden Eagles baseball team routed the Dorsey Dons 20-2. The victory gives the Golden Eagles a 7-4 overall record and a 1-1 Coliseum League record. The young Dons squad is still seeking their first win of the season.

The Golden Eagles got on the board in the first inning when senior Rian King batted out a 2RBI double. Hits from senior Jonathan Andrade and junior Christian Montejo edged up the Golden Eagles score to 5-0 by the second inning.

King/Drew then made five runs in the third inning with hits by senior Jordan Traylor, and team co-captains Carlos Lugo and Andrade.

“We realized that to stop being anxious, to hit and just wait for your pitch and just get on base,” Traylor said.

Freshman Aston Johnson was the starting pitcher for the Dons and slung for the first three innings. He noted how the Dons have strong communication skills and how they establish a sense of loyalty among one another. Johnson also has been enjoying his time competing on the high school level.

“I appreciate the time that we put in and the moments we have,” Johnson said.

Lugo was the starting pitcher for the Golden Eagles; he slung for four innings.

“Our season is going well,” Lugo said. “We had some wins and losses but the losses are hard fought and they’re good losses.”

In the final inning, Dorsey junior Aaron Brown hit a two RBI double, putting the Dons on the scoreboard. Despite the lost, the hit invigorated the team.

“We played the hardest we ever did and I love my team,” said senior Anderson Moore. “I feel like today really showed that we will have a right attitude, even in loss.”

Johnson noted how impactful the play was.

“It felt great, it’s something we haven’t experienced in a long time,” Johnson said. “It was something that we could cherish and we can build upon.”

Both teams will return to action on Tuesday, April 18 with their games starting at 3:30P.M. The Dons will face Port of Los Angeles in an away game and the Golden Eagles will host Harbor Teacher.
