*In the latest episode of “What the Hell?!,” we focus on seemingly educated folks who can’t spell.

*Despite a grand unveiling and all eyes on the monument, a statue honoring the late Kobe Bryant is coming under fire for a series of typos.

According to TMZ, four typos were detected this week on the base of the monument which sits outside Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It is there that an image of a signed box score from Bryant’s legendary 2006 game is found. The same game where Bryant furthered his reputation as one of the best basketball players of all time with 81 points scored.

Noticeably visible on the scarred box score are misspellings surrounding the names of two players from the Toronto Raptors’ standouts Von Wafer and Jose Calderon. Instead of “Von Wafer” the statue has his name spelled “Vom Wafer.”

For Calderone, the stoned box score has his moniker spelled incorrectly as “Jose Calderson.” Apparently, the people responsible for the wrong names took things a step further with spelling the word “decision” wrong in two of the “Coach’s Decision” portions of the Bryant statue. In our normal universe, the word would have a correct spelling as “decision.” As the box score under the Kobe monument proves, the spelling listed is not the right one, with it written as “decicion.”

Comparing the copy of the original box score that was sold at Goldin Auctions in 2022 with the immortalized score, TMZ noted the absence of errors on the original document.

The discovery of the box score typos marks an embarrassing development surrounding the Kobe statue. The fixture was at the center of a star-studded event on Feb 8. On hand for the event were former Lakers Coach Phil Jackson and iconic team members Stu Lantz, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Derek Fisher and team owner Jeanie Buss. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, appeared at the event, introducing the statute via an emotional and, at times, lighthearted address to the crowd.

Hours after breaking news of the misspellings, TMZ reports the Lakers have responded to the situation, confessing they have been aware of the typos “for a few weeks.”

“We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon,” a spokesperson told ABC News on March 11,

If this is a preview of what fans can expect from the two tributes to Bryant coming down the road, they can keep it. What they need to work on is getting some people in who aced their back-in-the-day spelling test and had no trouble making the world better and free of spelling errors.
