*Actress Krystal Joy Brown reportedly shines in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s musical “Merrily We Roll Along,” which is playing to packed houses.
Sandy Kenyon of ABC 7 reviewed the show and noted that Brown is prominently featured as “Gussie Carnegie.”
“One of the best moments in this job for me came when I was surprised and delighted by a show I didn’t know much about and didn’t really care to see,” Kenton writes. “I’m not a huge Sondheim fan, because I prefer more traditional show tunes, but I went to see this one to watch Krystal Joy Brown.”
“I think this is the right time, the right place, and the right people for this production,” Brown said in an interview with ABC 7.
Jonathan Groff has done the thing. Judd has not.

Per Broadway.com, here’s the synopsis for the musical: “Spanning three decades in the entertainment business, Merrily We Roll Along charts the turbulent relationship between composer Franklin Shepard and his two lifelong friends—writer Mary and lyricist & playwright Charley. An inventive cult-classic ahead of its time, Merrily We Roll Along features some of Stephen Sondheim’s most celebrated and personal songs. Maria Friedman first directed the musical at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory–a production that subsequently transferred to the Harold Pinter Theatre, where it garnered the most five-star reviews in West End history before going on to win the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival.”
Kenyon writes, “Brown plays a Broadway star who marries Jonathan Groff’s character, “Frank,” a composer who writes musicals with a pal, played by Daniel Radcliffe. Both are friends with a critic portrayed by Lindsay Mendez.”
“We actually start when everyone is in their 40’s and we go back to when everyone is in their 20’s,” Brown said of the show.
“It’s really been a piece of art that breathes and moves and changes,” she added.
