Style-wise, March is always a tricky month. If you’re anything like me, you’re itching to switch up your wardrobe after months of bulky layers, but it’s not quite warm enough to shed your winter weather-appropriate pieces. With that in mind, seeing a bit of March Madness in how our favorite athletes showed up this month was fun.
This month’s picks run the gamut from menswear on women to ski bunny chic and beyond. Below, we look at 10 standout game day outfits for March, with a few looks from the Miami Open and even an international soccer player. I couldn’t stop thinking about these looks, and I doubt I am alone. Last month, the looks I was super drawn to were all over the place, whereas this month’s picks are all about clean lines, silhouettes and tailoring.
Skylar Diggins-Smith
Skylar Diggins looks like she’s preparing for the Met Gala, where fashion and sports will collide to celebrate Black Dandyism this year. Dandyism was a historically aristocratic style of dress reclaimed by Black men across the diaspora, typically in brightly patterned or striped suits like the Bode one Diggins is wearing with her Brandon Blackwood handbag and smart Valentino pumps. And honestly, who doesn’t love a woman in a suit?
Tiffany Hayes
Like what Laces guard and new Golden State Valkyries member Tiffany Hayes (second from the left in the photos above) is doing with her tunnel fits. Her take on suiting usually involves movement, like the swinging belt of ties she wore last month or the breezy newspaper-print oversized vest and shorts she’s wearing in these images.
Rickea Jackson
Rickea Jackson continues to invoke the spirit of an early-aughts music video girl in the best way possible. This month, she is wearing a Kim Shui red fur cropped jacket and matching itty-bitty skirt, Givenchy Shark boots, and a Dolls Kill x Bratz mini handbag — truly an IT girl.
Russell Westbrook
Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook walked into his game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in a Canadian tuxedo reminiscent of a chore coat or a barebones blazer with large pockets typically worn by French laborers. On Westbrook, the denim on denim looks like an early edition of a Negro Leagues uniform due to its roominess. Very complimentary.
Angel Reese
By now, we know Angel Reese gets down on and off the court, especially regarding her style. This Barbie après-ski look is so fun because of the fuzzy hat and boots. The textured all-white keeps the outfit from feeling too heavy this close to spring. Both the hat and boots, made by Tyler Lamber, are still available for purchase and retail for $160 and $295, respectively.
Jules Kounde
French soccer player Jules Kounde plays well with pushing the boundaries with the silhouettes he wears, not shying away from high-heeled boots or skirts. This particular look stands out because of his ability to wear deconstructed denim and a khaki trench coat, a tie, a fitted hat, and hard-bottom shoes while keeping them all streamlined and tailored.
Alycia Parks
Tennis player Alycia Parks returns the ball against Varvara Gracheva of France on day one of the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium on March 18, 2025 in Miami Gardens, FL.
Alycia Parks won her match at the Miami Open in a purple gradient tie-dye tank top and skort that matched the Wilson emblem on her tennis racket. That level of attention to detail is always appreciated.
Naomi Osaka
A year after Naomi Osaka’s professional return, she’s still brightening the tennis courts, quite literally in this highlighter-yellow skort, matching tank top, and visor. It felt like a smile, and that’s fitting considering the Nike athlete’s positive outlook after her win, saying post-game: “I want to play with the big dogs so bad, and I just see everyone playing so well, and I want to do the same. But I have to remember it’s a process.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
It is not that Chrome Hearts and black-and-white camouflage have a muted look, as seen in slide two above. But somehow, on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the eye is drawn to his new signature sneakers, letting his footwear shine. That was no easy feat with such logo-heavy pants, but his height and keeping the same color palette on the top and bottom allow the pop of yellow to be the main event.
Channing Hargrove is a senior writer at Andscape covering fashion. That’s easier than admitting how strongly she identifies with the lyrics “Single Black female addicted to retail.”
