Authorities in Missouri said a 51-year-old man shot his 16-year-old son in the head following an argument and left him to die in the street. According to The Kansas City Star, the St. Louis County Police Department in a statement on Wednesday said Carl Walker Jr. had been arrested and charged in connection with the January 24 shooting death of his son Isaiah Walker.
Authorities said Walker opened fire on his son after they got into an argument “over personal matters.” Prior to the fatal incident, Isaiah and his father had driven off in the suspect’s car before they were shortly spotted returning to the direction of their home on foot, police said. Walker shot and killed his son around that period, police added.
Authorities also said Walker left his son to die in the street following the shooting. The victim was ultimately taken to the hospital in a serious condition. He succumbed to his life-threatening injuries on January 27, police said.
Authorities said they ultimately established that Walker, following the shooting, put a .45 caliber handgun magazine as well as clothes in the trash to hide them. Police also said they found a .45 caliber shell casing at the murder scene, The Kansas City Star reported.
Walker, who later admitted to fatally shooting his son, has since been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. His cash-only bond was set at $500,000.
A GoFundMe set up to raise funds for Isaiah’s mother stated that the deceased teen “loved football and playing video games.” “Isaiah enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he was especially close to his sister Sharday and his cousin Kamara,” the fundraiser added. “Many people felt like he was their child.”
