*Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka and Superbowl winner quarterback Patrick Mahomes are allegedly investing in Major League Pickleball, according to Front Office Sports.

Pickleball is a sport that can be played indoors or outdoors and is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

Neither Osaka nor Mahomes have made a formal statement, but according to Forbes, the expansion spans from $1 million to $3 million.

Investment firm — SC Holdings — is an early adopter in showing interest in the new sport, which later became popular with other athletes, Yahoo! Sports reports.

“Pickleball is one of the most exciting growth opportunities in sports because of its committed and engaged community across the U.S.,” said Jason Stein, Managing Partner of SC Holdings, according to a press release. “People are obsessed with the game, as both participants and fans, and we’re excited to use our collective experience and expertise across sports, media, and entertainment to reach new participants and expand the community. We’re thrilled to become partners of Major League Pickleball – which as a league and sport is just getting started.”

Steve Kuhn founded MLP in 2022 and had 12 teams participating in the season and will see an additional 12 teams starting in 2023, including one group backed by a high-rolling group of investors.
