*A new promo clip for “The Equalizer 3″ was shared on the film’s official Instagram account, showing Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall character and his arsenal of weaponry.
Washinton returns for the third installment in the beloved action movie franchise, and once again, he’s protecting Dakota Fanning from bad guys.
Per the official synopsis, “Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.”
Per Urban Hollywood 411, Sony Pictures says this is “the final chapter” of the franchise.
As TheWrap reports, “The Equalizer 2” earned $190 million at the box office in 2018 compared to “The Equalizer” which earned $193 million in 2014.
Washington was on hand when the official trailer for the third film premiered at CinemaCon in April.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Washington told a Colosseum full of exhibition executives, Deadline reported.
Washington received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the event, which was presented by director Antonie Fuqua during Sony’s presentation.
“We would be nothing without you all. We’re here for you. We’re here because of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been blessed beyond measure,” Washington said upon receiving the honor.
Fuqua said Washington “doesn’t like being called a movie star… I think audiences have come to know what to expect from Denzel, a sense of honor, dignity and morals, commitment to what’s right and determination to see that through.”
Loosely based on the 1985 TV series created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim, “The Equalizer 3″ is written by Richard Wenk. Speaking to Good Morning America, Fuqua said the film will bring something new, but the violence will be “brutal.”
“This is McCall going to Italy to right a wrong and when he gets there, he finds people who need his help,” Fuqua said. “He helps them in a reluctant, brutal way.”
“The Equalizer 3” arrives in theaters nationwide on Sept. 1. Watch the official trailer below and check out the new promo clip via the IG video above.
