No Championship No ‘Hall of Fame’

*The ultimate dream of any basketball player is to win an NBA championship and to one day get into the NBA Hall of Fame. While anyone can get into basketball, only the best players get into the Hall of Fame. But now, some folks want the rules amended to raise the bar a bit higher.

According to former NBAers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, only players that have won a championship should qualify for the Hall of Fame. Looks like the two do not want the hall to be crowded. Garnett and Pierce are Hall-of-Famers themselves.

“Being in the Hall of Fame and then being here with the championship it’s solidified. That’s 360 to me,” said Kevin Garnett. “Not to say or disown anybody else in here, but I feel they go together. These are arguably the best players to ever touch the rock, and to be in here, and to be considered one of them, with the championship, is icing on [the]cake.”

Paul Pierce said, “I’m not even sure I want to be in the Hall of Fame without one of these. We’re talking about the best of the best, in accomplishment, the highest accomplishment you can accomplish as a team. Like I feel that this should be the entry. You can’t come here without one of these. That’s just my opinion.”

Kevin Garnett then said, “Because when you talk about the best, the best have won it, at least one time.”

Some people argue it would not be fair to lock someone out of the Hall of Fame because they didn’t win a championship. Had such a rule been in place from the onset, the likes of Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, John Stockton, and Karl Malone wouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame. Those opposed to such a rule point out that no matter how great a player is in basketball, he will ultimately come up short if his supporting cast isn’t good enough. So it’s not fair to use winning the championship as the yardstick.

Meanwhile, the Hall of Fame class of 2023 has the likes of Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Pau Gasol, and Tony Parker. Wade presented an emotional message after learning he was among the finalists. Apart from being great players, these worthy finalists also won an NBA title at some point in their careers.
