On Nov. 3, a street in Oakland, California was renamed for Tupac Shakur, 27 years after he was killed.
The section of MacArthur Boulevard near where he lived was renamed Tupac Shakur Way. A ceremony took place for the unveiling with his family members and other Oakland artists.
“Pac was more than just a rapper, more than a musician, he was a cultural figure,” his brother, Mo Shakur said. “The things he was trying to say and impress upon people that were important, about taking care of the community, and it resonated and that’s why he still has the love today.”

Shakur was born in Harlem, New York, and was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, but lived in East Oakland after moving there in the 1980s.
MC Hammer called Shakur “hands down, the greatest rapper ever, there’s not even a question of that” during the ceremony.
The decision to rename the sreet was made by the Oakland City Council, led by Councilmember Carol Fife. Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, shared plans of putting a peace pole at the location, which would symbolize love and peace in Oakland.
