*NFL free agent Odell Beckham Jr. was escorted off an American Airlines plane after the wide receiver was unresponsive to the flight crew during departure. According to reports, the incident took place around 9:30am Sunday morning (11/27/22) at Miami airport when Beckham was flying to Los Angeles.

During the departure segment, the flight crew became concerned about Beckham after they tried to wake him up to fasten his seatbelt. Beckham appeared to be going in and out of consciousness so the crew called the police and emergency care.

Before police arrived on the scene the flight crew asked him to exit the plane, but he refused. Once police arrived Beckham exited the plane with no issue and was escorted to another area of the terminal where he made other arrangements to travel.

Later Beckham took to Twitter to indirectly address the issue calling it a “comedy hour.” He also tweeted “Never in my life have I experienced what just happened to me … I’ve seen it all.”

Wait. There’s more  … Here’s American Airlines’ official statement regarding the incident:

“At approximately 9:30 a.m., officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department were dispatched to a medical emergency at an American Airlines flight. The flight crew was concerned for a passenger (Mr. Odell Beckham), as they tried to wake him to fasten his seat belt, he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness, prior to their departure. Fearing that Mr. Beckham was seriously ill, and that his condition would worsen through the expected 5 hour flight, the attendants called for police and fire rescue. Upon the officers’ arrival, the flight crew asked Mr. Beckham several times to exit the aircraft, which he refused. The aircraft was deplaned, at which time Mr. Beckham was asked by the officers to exit the plane, and did so without incident. Mr. Beckham was escorted to the non-secure area of the terminal by the officers where he made other arrangements.”

Beckham, an NFL free agent, is recovering from a torn ACL injury that happened back in February in the Super Bowl.
