Otis Kemp releases new Hip-Hop influenced Gospel single ‘Daily Bread.’
*“The lyrics are reality,” said Hip-Hop Gospel artist Otis Kemp about his new single “Daily Bread” which debuted at #9 on Billboard and Media Base Charts. “Wrote the song some time ago…was never able to put it out. I was riding one day, and God said, ‘Go.’ Got with some guys locally…it was revamped with steroids!”
Otis isn’t new to the music industry. As a teen, he was signed to Poe Boy Entertainment along with Rick Ross and FloRida. All of them Florida natives trying to make it in the music business, collaborating as labelmates do.
“I took a hiatus to focus on finding out who I am,” Kemp said when I asked about his history with Hip-Hop’s Rick Ross and what he has been doing. “Gospel is not the music we did. But when God tells me how to do it, I knew I had something. Tell people…read the Bible you’ll understand. (In the Bible) People wrote about their experiences.”
Otis Kemp came to the realization that he was supposed to spread God’s Word with material that mirrored who he was. The Otis Kemp way is full of Hip-Hop influence and words that now have Spiritual meaning. As a songwriter, he has written for Rick Ross, FloRida, The Commodores, and Timbaland. Now making his mark in Gospel, his single “Daily Bread” reached #10 on Gospel Radio Charts.
“We were all part of the label…went to high school together…played football together. Music was a passion,” he told me about his past. “Loved how we tapped into our God given talents instead of the stereotype for blacks…playing basketball, football…”
Otis Kemp is a preacher’s kid, which means he naturally fought against his family’s calling. But as with all preacher’s kids, they always come back with experiences that only make their part in spreading the Gospel unique. Kemp released four singles with accompanying music videos in 2022 and this year he plans to release an EP on Otis Kemp Music. www.OfficialOtisKemp.com
