This year, EBONY tapped the celebrated designer and past Power 100 honoree to create exclusive gift bags for the 2024 EBONY Power 100 Gala. “This is the first time I’ve ever made a gift bag,” Blackwood shared. “I’m so used to making everyday bags you wear to work or an event. This was a particular challenge because it’s more of a presentation piece. The focus is the bag, yes, but mainly the products inside that people can’t wait to get their hands on.”
Blackwood’s vision for the EBONY Power 100 gift bags was rooted in his definition of power: being completely secure in who you are. For the gala, he wanted the bags to feel bold and impactful while seamlessly complementing the event’s elegant aesthetic. His design process prioritized shape, color and silhouette, ensuring the bags could make their own statement while reflecting the prestige of the occasion. Blackwood, who attended the Gala in 2022, fondly recalled the thrill of opening the gift bags with friends the moment they got into their Uber. Now, he’s brought that same excitement full circle by curating an unforgettable take-home moment for this year’s esteemed guests.
