Irish Grinstead, a prominent figure in the 90s music scene as a member of R&B group 702, who sadly passed away at 43. Her untimely death has left fans heartbroken and has sparked a call for reconciliation among fellow artists.
On Saturday, September 16, Irish’s sister and former group member LeMisha Grinstead took to Instagram to announce the passing of her beloved sister. She stated:
“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening. She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family.”
This devastating news comes just months after it was announced by the group that she would be taking a “medical leave of absence due to serious medical issues” in December 2022. Irish’s cause of death was kidney failure, the same ailment that took her twin sister Orish Grinstead in April of 2008, who was only 27 years old at the time.
Shortly after, on Sunday, September 17th, member Quinnes Parker, better known as “Q” from the 90s chart-topping R&B group 112, took to his Instagram and said:
“The universe has a way of showing us that it’s in control. Our job is to serve, be kind, and just do good. This news really rocked me to the point that I assessed beyond any profession, beyond any amount of money…… how are your relationships with the people you love! I can honestly say that if anything were to happen to my band members, I would be FUCKED UP and the constant question would remain in my head, Q, did you do enough to mend the relationship! @officialslim_ @michaelkeith112 CALL ME BACK. #itsbeyondthemusic”
Q went on to send his condolences to the Grinstead family and Kameelah Williams, as well as to point out the fact that Jagged Edge member Brandon Casey was in a tragic car accident that he thankfully survived, which had his heart heavy.
As of now, neither 112 member has responded to Q publicly.
This tragic loss to the music industry has opened many eyes to cherishing loved ones because time is uncertain. Irish will be remembered for her musical legacy and be missed by friends, family members, and supporters everywhere.
