As the spring semester begins, one of the biggest things on your mind may be the cost of the next step in your educational journey.
Whether you’re jumping into the classroom this upcoming semester or preparing to join next year, you have an extensive number of resources you can utilize to help fund your STEM degree. Here are some great scholarships that you can apply for to aid your educational journey:
SWE Scholarship Program
Funded by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the SWE Scholarship Program awards scholarships to those who identify as a woman who are pursuing a degree in engineering. In 2022, SWE awarded over $1.7 million through 330 different scholarships. Prospective students can fill out one application and will automatically be considered for all available scholarships. Besides identifying as a woman, applicants must be full-time students and can be at any level of their educational journey from community college to a graduate program. EPP Undergraduate Scholarship Program
The EPP/MSI Undergraduate Scholarship provides funds for two years of undergraduate study to rising junior undergraduate students majoring in STEM fields that directly support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Along with funding, the scholarship includes two paid internships done over the course of two years with NOAA. To apply, students must be going into sophomore year of their undergraduate degree and be attending a Minority Serving Institution such as an HSI, HBCU or Tribal College and University. American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship
Hosted by an organization of the same name as its scholarship, the American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship is designed to support underrepresented minorities in the energy fields. Each year, the American Association of Blacks in Energy awards $3,000-$5,000 to high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are planning on pursuing a degree in business, math, engineering, technology or one of the physical sciences. DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
The Department of Energy (DOE)’s Computational Science Graduate Fellowship provides funding and resources to doctoral students pursuing studies around high-performance computing in scientific and engineering fields. In addition to funding, those who participate in this fellowship receive training from the Department of Energy and an interdisciplinary group of scientists to network with. This fellowship is open across the country and has produced graduates who have gone on to work with the Department of Energy and other high profile scientific and educational fields. KnowBe4 Military, Veterans & Spouse Cybersecurity Scholarship
For veterans, military personnel and their spouses, cybersecurity is one of the most sought-out fields in STEM. Through the KnowBe4 Cybersecurity Scholarship, military personnel, veterans and their spouses are eligible to apply for up to $13,000 in funds. Tuition, fees and other required materials will be covered up to $10,000, with an additional $3,000 to be attributed to on-campus housing. Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in cybersecurity, information assurance or a similar field by the spring semester following the due date.
