In celebration of today’s 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, see Colman Domingo as Bayard Rustin, an instrumental figure in the Civil Rights movement. Netflix has released the first trailer for the eponymous film.

Directed by DGA Award and five-time Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe and starring EBONY’s June cover star, Rustin tells the story of Rustin, who spent more than 40 years as an activist and helped orchestrate the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963.

“People had told me for years, when there’s a biopic about Bayard Rustin, you have to play it,” Dolman told EBONY in our cover story exclusive. “I’ve been preparing to play this man for a very long time.”

As a member of the LGBTQ community in the 1960s, Rustin never backed down from his convictions or the fight for civil and gay rights. He made history, but his achievements were never heralded like many of his activist counterparts.

The film features an all-star cast that includes Chris Rock, Glynn Turman, Aml Ameen, Gus Halper, CCH Pounder, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Johnny Ramey, Michael Potts, Jeffrey Wright and Audra McDonald. Netflix presented clips from the film earlier this month at Martha’s Vineyard’s African American Film Festival.

Rustin arrives in theaters on November 3 and premieres on the streaming platform on November 17, 2023.
