Snoop Dogg Cancels Anniversary Show, Emmys Postponed and More Reaction to Hollywood’s Ongoing Actor and Writer Strikes

The Writers Guild of America and SAG/AFTRA strikes continue as Hollywood’s writing and acting communities demand better healthcare options, residual increases, a definitive plan to deal with AI technology and more. Production shutdowns aren’t the only fallout as celebrities step away from projects to show solidarity over the ongoing dispute.

Snoop Dogg has canceled his highly anticipated shows marking the 30th anniversary of his breakthrough album Doggystyle that were set to take place at the Hollywood Bowl in October. The legendary rapper had already stepped away from shows scheduled in June in support of the writers’ strike.

The 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards live broadcast has been postponed, Variety reports. Initially set to air on Fox on September 18, vendors have been told that the ceremony “will not air” on that date, with no proposed future date announced in its place.

Many actors have braved the relentless heat this week to stand on picket lines.

Actor Ezra Knight⁠ who is president of SAG/AFTRA New York led its largest and most star-studded rally yet in Times Square on July 26, 2023. He and other notable names braved New York City’s relentless heat and waved picket signs in another show of “solidarity and unity.”

In Los Angeles, Sons of Anarchy and Colony actor Tory Kittles held a “SAG-AFTRA On Strike” sign high as fellow actor Colin Farrell explained that the strike is to secure equitable arrangements for actors who aren’t the top-grossing earners in Hollywood.

Many actors have taken to social media to share why getting fair wages, especially as residuals, is crucial to their survival. Former child actress Giovonnie Samuels of Suite Life of Zack & Cody and All That released an emotional TikTok post to explain why she was striking. “Not all child stars are rich. Not all of us are balling,” she said through tears. “I’m asking for a livable wage, I’m asking for health insurance. You have no idea how hard it is.”
