Steve Harris – Detective Steve Bryant-BMF
*The hit STARZ crime drama “BMF” returns for a second season on January 6!
The series dramatizes the true story of two brothers, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late ’80s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in the country: Black Mafia Family.
Season two finds the brothers expanding their operations separately, with Detective Von Bryant (Steve Harris) hot on their trail. After falling out with Meech at the end of Season One, Bryant is more hellbent than ever on taking down all of BMF.
EUR correspondent Jill Munroe spoke exclusively with Harris about what to expect from Bryant this season. He also revealed a critical piece of information that viewers will learn about the shady detective.

Harris said at the start of season two, Bryant feels betrayed by Meech.
“Bryant has gone over the top, and now he’s trying to do something right. He’s trying to turn that page and maneuver into what the job is supposed to be. But he’s still caught up in how he is,” the actor explained. “Sometimes they say you can’t get out of your own way. I think he’s one of those cats who can’t get out of his own way. So I guess that’s what’s driving him to right the ship because he went beyond where he should have been in the game.
Harris admits the detective was in too deep in season one, but season two also brings in a new partner for the detective, played by Kelly Hu. However, Harris says that given Bryant’s circumstances, it will be tough for the character to ever really trust anyone.
Harris revealed this season, we will see another side of Det. Bryant because of his teen son. Harris said this backstory “opened the character up. Nobody is one way. We all evolve and have different aspects to us. And I think one of the things about the character is that he’s a hard character. But he’s more of a straightforward dude that has adopted the Detroit hustle. But he has a kid that he’s trying to be better for.”
Harris added, “His son is softer than he is, but Bryant feels he needs his son to be a little tougher to deal with the world. He doesn’t need him to be him, but an added layer.”
Harris believes the complexities between the character and what he’s doing with the left hand, hunting down Meech, and then on the right hand trying to raise this son, plus having this new partner, makes the character more vulnerable in season two.
