Rendering of proposed Sweetie Pie’s 2nd Act
*Sweetie Pie’s is reportedly opening a new spot in St. Louis after its last location in the city shut down last fall.
The restaurant, made famous in the OWN reality series “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” will open Sweetie Pie’s 2nd Act at Kingshighway Blvd. and Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. in north St. Louis, just east of Sherman Park, according to local news reports. This would be owner Robbie Montgomery’s first location since the brand’s last spot, Sweetie Pie’s Upper Crust on Delmar Boulevard, closed last fall. Their Jackson, Mississippi location shut down just last month.
Montgomery plans to invest about $4 million for the new location at 4949 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which she purchased through her 4949 Development LLC in November for $135,000, according to city records. The new location could birth bout 25 new jobs.
Montgomery is also seeking 10 years of tax abatement as well as the right to use eminent domain for an adjacent property at 4923 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in case negotiations to buy that property fail, according to documents filed with the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority.
Montgomery opened her first Sweetie Pie’s 25 years ago. Her son — former business partner and TV show co-star James “Tim” Norman — was convicted on federal murder-for-hire charges last year in the death of nephew, and TV show co-star Andre Montgomery Jr., Robbie Montgomery’s grandson.
